Tennis Inc keeps the rally going

BRYANSTON – Tennis players have been very creative in getting their tennis fix.

Tennis Inc has ensured its players remain active, fit and positive during the lockdown.

The tennis academy, which operates out of Dainfern Tennis Club and Bryanston Sports Club, as well as St Stithians Girls’ College, Brescia House School and Beaulieu Preparatory School, has a diverse clientele ranging from three-year-olds, to adults.

“Like all sports, tennis has been severely affected by the Covid-19 lockdown,” said the academy’s co-head coach, Gaynor Harris.

“Being a highly skilled game, tennis needs regular practise to stay at your best. Only those who are nursing injuries can afford to take an extended break.” For this reason, Tennis Inc noticed what many professional players have done and how they have trained during the lockdown, and encouraged its players to follow suit.

“We have sent weekly messages to get players to do tennis-specific fitness work and innovate to practice certain skills such as volleying against a wall or garage door, or rallying with a sibling or parent in the driveway.

“The feedback we have been receiving is that people can’t wait to get back on the court. Tennis is largely an individual sport which means it will be one of the first sports to get going again [after the lockdown]. Tennis South African is taking progressive steps to get tennis going again. We keep our players informed about these developments which helps everyone stay positive.”
