WATCH: Covid-19 lockdown week one – Bryanston roads remain bare

BRYANSTON – One week into the nationwide lockdown and the infamous busy roads of Bryanston remain empty.

The infamous busy streets of Bryanston remain deserted as we wrap up week one of the nationwide lockdown.

The 21-day lockdown, as announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa on 23 March, came into effect on 27 March to help flatten the rapidly increasing curve of Covid-19 infections in South Africa.

Even though you may be losing track of which day of the week it is, residents have remained committed to the lockdown leaving the roads relatively deserted – perhaps similar to that of a typical Sunday morning?

Typically busy roads such as Republic Road, Sandton Drive, William Nicol Drive and Main Road now only find a handful of cars making their way through every few minutes.

The William Nicol Drive intersection over the N1 highway presented the most noticeable change as motorists are known for sitting in traffic for anything from 20 minutes to over an hour.

On this rainy day, the intersection is free-flowing with the exception of the South African Police Service vehicles posted for observation.

The motorists all seem to have one goal in mind – get the essentials and go home.
