Redhill School hosted a farewell for their matrics.

Teachers, parents and learners gathered at the school on 8 January to celebrate their results and wish each other well before the learners leave the school for good.

The grade head for the matric learners, Liesl Pretorius, said she was incredibly proud of the learners’ accomplishments. She highlighted that each learner had achieved something during their time at the school and looked forward to seeing what they go on to accomplish.

Pretorius added that it was a sad moment to be saying goodbye to the learners as she has been their grade head for the past three years.

Joseph Gerassi, the executive head of the school said while he was incredibly proud of their results, their distinctions were not the most important thing.

“It’s not about distinctions, it’s about setting a goal in life, and it’s about setting a benchmark,” he said.

“If you don’t achieve it then you’ll know where you got to.”

He highlighted that the matric year was not just about their results but rather their participation in the school and what they contributed to the school through sports, arts and culture. He added that not all learners thrived in a structured academic environment but that did not make their achievements any less notable.

Gerassi also commended the teachers at the school for their dedication to the learners. He also thanked the parents for doing an amazing job with their children and for giving them the invaluable gift of a good education.
