#HaveYourSay: Should plastic shopping bags be used?

SANDTON – With plastic pollution a big problem, we asked residents how they feel about the use of plastic bags.

LARONA MUNJELELE: It will take some time to get used to not using plastic bags and will be difficult, but we need to preserve nature.

We asked Sandton residents if they think the use of plastic shopping bags should be stopped. Here’s what they had to say …

DEANNE HUNTER: We need to ban the whole lot. The only thing that will be viable is brown paper bags and it will have a positive impact.
TAWANDA PASI: I have never really thought about it, but we should sell more reusable products. Paper bags should be implemented.
JEREMY EDET: We should have alternatives and a back-up plan such as brown paper bags. It’s not right if the whole country just stops selling plastic bags.
MARIO LINDHOLM: It will definitely be worth it. We need to control the use of plastics and use bio-degradable alternatives. We are endangering our wildlife.
