Gardens of the golden city

SANDTON – Garden club, Gardens of the Golden City are inviting visitors to partake in a tour of some of Johannesburg’s best garden showcases.

This year’s displays in the Sandton area will take place in Morningside, Bryanston and Rivonia.

Tucked away on a quiet country lane in the middle of Morningside lies a garden of extraordinary interest. Divided into two distinct areas, on one side of the house indigenous plantings combine well with a mixture of the unusual and the exotic which appear around every bend of the meandering pathways.

Secret corners, each with their own philosophical story to tell are a joy to behold from water features to insect hotels. Visitors can view the garden on 7 and 8 February from 10am to 5pm at 51c French Lane in Morningside.

In Bryanston, an indigenous garden was planted by Doctor Peter Huberts, an indigenous horticulturist. Visitors can view the garden on 7 and 8 February at 26 Portman Road in Bryanston. Again in Bryanston on 20 and 21 June, visitors can view a garden developed over 12 years with the objective of providing a haven for wildlife at 22 Hunt Road in Bryanston.

In Rivonia on 15 and 17 May, visitors can enjoy a walk or can relax along the eight kilometre stretch of riverbank, meet the ducks and geese along the way and appreciate the tranquility of the Sandspruit River Trail garden area from 10am to 5pm.
