Non-stop water cuts in Riverclub

RIVERCLUB - Water has been restored in Morningside and Riverclub after water cuts on 29 July.

This according to Bertha Peters-Scheepers, spokesperson for the Johannesburg Roads Agency after Ward 103 councillor Vincent Earp had said the Johannesburg Roads Agency contractors were responsible for the water cuts in the Riverclub area.

Earp said water was restored on 28 July for residents in Duxberry, Morningside Extension 40, Riverclub, Benmore and Parkmore. He also said Hollyhock Road residents only had their water restored at 3pm on 29 July.

However, complaints from residents were still received on 30 July about water cuts in the area.

Riverclub resident Garth Hollidge was livid that he now had to buy water every morning because of water cuts in his area. He added, “Johannesburg Water will not even consider the fact that they cut our water during the month. We will still get the same bill.”

Peters-Scheepers explained that there was a collapse on the south embankment on Coleraine Drive in Riverclub. “This revealed a 100mm pipe and valve as well as the 450mm main line pipe,” she explained. “A piece of concrete fell on the valve and as a result opened the flange between the valve and the pipe. The opening caused water to spray up to 15m high.”

She added that Johannesburg Water was then contacted to repair the pipe, and turned off the water supply.

Peters-Scheepers said Johannesburg Water had replaced a section of the old pipe, and installed new couplings and water supply was re-opened on the evening of 28 July.
