Paid parking at Sandton Library not welcomed

SANDTON - Jacci Babich, a library user, expressed shock after news that there will be no more free parking at the Sandton library.

“I read with horror that the infamous Joburg Property Company has sold off the land next to the library, so there is no more free parking for those wanting to visit the library,” explained Babich.

This after Ward 103 councillor Vincent Earp confirmed that the Sandton Library parking lot area had been sold by the City Of Joburg Property Company. He said he did not know to whom the property had been sold to, and as far as he was aware there had been no allocated parking space for library users since the parking lot was sold.

“I find this totally unacceptable and against all tenets of a public service,” added Babich.

“I am a pensioner and cannot afford to pay the exorbitant parking fees at Sandton City. In addition, I have to drive there from Northcliff as Sandton is the only library which stocks audio books.”

Babich said this was a “shocking situation” if one considered the wealth of Johannesburg.

No comment has been received from the property company since a request was logged on 27 June.

Executive manager of the company, Fanis Sardianos said he would forward the complaint to the relevant official.
