Join the craft beer revolution

JOBURG - South Africa has long been a nation of beer lovers, but our near unshakeable faith in a handful big brands has undergone a revolution in recent years.

Tapping into the craft beer popularity explosion, the Craft Revolution Beer Festival will draw breweries and beer-lovers to Montecasino next month.

Visitors will be able to enjoy not only a host of locally-brewed artisanal beers, but gourmet street food like Longtom Foods and Reds Roasted Sandwiches as well.

“The festival will feature a range of South Africa’s top craft breweries, drawing ‘beer-ginners’ and connoisseurs alike,” said festival spokesperson Chris Verrijdt.

Among the participating breweries are Aces Brew Worx, Boston Breweries, Brewhogs, Cape Brewing Co., Citizen, Darling Brew, Devil’s Peak Brewing Company, Loxton Lager, Smack! Republic Brewing Co., Soweto Gold, Swagga Breweries, and The Cockpit Brewhouse.

“For the wine aficionados among us, there is no need to feel deprived of the luscious grape,” he said.

“The festival will have three sublime wines on offer: Alphabetical, La Capra, and Fairview.”

Three bands will further up the festival’s entertainment value – Dalliance, +2 Band, and the Mark Beling Band.

“All food and drink purchased on site will be done using the festival currency called ‘Castros’. Each Castro is worth R5, and can be purchased at the event in denominations of R100 booklets,” said Verrijdt.

The festival ticket price will include a 500ml draught glass.

The Craft Revolution Beer Festival will take place on 9 August at the Montecasino outdoor event area, Montecasino Boulevard, Fourways.
