Bossaball – a spectacular new sports attraction

BRYANSTON - Zinto Sports launched a new sport called bossaball in Bryanston.

The brand activation, entertainment and events company, intends to introduce bossaball to the entire country.

An experiential event was held at The Campus in Bryanston to present the sport to the public and demonstrate how the game is played.

Daniella Hess on behalf of Zinto Sports said, “Bossaball is a team game that combines technical movements and rules from volleyball, soccer, gymnastics and capoeira, which is a Brazilian dance mixed with fighting movements.”

The sport is played on an inflatable court featuring a trampoline on each side of the net. Hess explained the aim of bossaball was to score points by grounding the ball on the opponent’s court through a combination of volleyball-style spikes, acrobatic boosts and trampoline-assisted kicks.

“The change in gravity, combined with the safety provided by the inflatable surface, allows a whole new range of techniques, team tactics and strategies, which give players a new perspective on their favourite games,” added Hess.

She said the referee, who also happened to be the DJ, would create a platform for entertainment by playing music throughout the game. “It is one of the only activities in the world that combines music and sports which are the two elements that are always present within big crowds,” said Hess.

The festive environment in which it is played creates a backdrop for a day or night of sporting activity during a team-building, corporate and family fun day event. Hess said the court could be set up wherever there was enough space, for example, on a tennis court, a beach, a field or even inside a sports centre.
