JRA’s mobile app puts fault-logging in the public’s hands

JOBURG - Thousands of road users are keeping the Joburg Roads Agency busy using its mobile app to report service and infrastructure issues.

The roads agency said a total of 3 970 users had downloaded its FindandFix app and 4 188 incidents had been logged since its launch in May.

The roads agency’s spokesperson, Bertha Peters-Scheepers said no major bugs had been reported and the app had been working well on all platforms since its launch.

“There were a few minor bugs that have been resolved already, none of which have stopped the use of the app since launch day.”

She said according to the roads agency’s statistics, the majority of issues reported had been adequately addressed.

The app served to assist the public to report potholes, faulty traffic signals, damaged or missing manhole covers and other infrastructure issues related to the roads agency.

Reporting an issue should take users no longer than two minutes and the app uses GPS co-ordinates to capture the accurate location of the issue logged. It also features a photo-uploader to provide photo-evidence of the problem.

The mobile app can be downloaded on smartphones running either Windows, Android or iOS.

According to the roads agency, pothole repairs and manhole cover replacements should be completed in three days of being reported while road signs should be replaced within seven days, and grass cutting should be undertaken monthly in the rainy season and quarterly in the season.

Traffic light failures should be repaired within 24 hours, however traffic lights which were out of order due to mechanical problems or maintenance needs will be fixed in the stipulated time.

Faulty traffic lights due to cable/controller thefts, road works or power failures were beyond the roads agency’s control and may not be repaired within the stipulated time.

The road agency continued to urge road users to log complaints by using the mobile app, calling the hotline on 086 056 2874 or sending an e-mail to hotline@jra.org.za and tweeting queries to @MyJra.
