Coleraine Drive sinkhole is under construction

RIVERCLUB - THE Johannesburg Roads Agency is working hard to repair the sinkhole on Coleraine Drive in Riverclub.

This after a press conference was held at their offices in Johannesburg to update the media about the developments of the road agency’s road infrastructure programme.

Sandton Chronicle metro reporter, Simone Samuels said the roads agency announced that the Coleraine Drive culvert was in the process of being repaired.

She said, “The roads agency is awaiting Telkom’s removal of cables which are delaying the construction of the bridge. Old culverts at the Coleraine Drive site have been removed except those under the Telkom lines.”

Samuels added that the roads agency said excavation had commenced on Coleraine Drive however, challenges with scour and ground strength had emerged. Repair work would take an estimated four to six months and an estimated R6.1 million had been allocated for this.

The roads agency said a detour route had been clearly demarcated. A sewage line that was in the way of construction had also been identified however, the roads agency said they were in talks with Joburg Water in this regard. The roads agency had also encountered mass concrete that was currently being demolished.

Meanwhile, the roads agency said the repair work on Ballyclare Drive in Bryanston was set to commence mid-May this year. They added that the estimated construction period of the bridge was two months. The scope entailed the replacement of missing steel handrails, concrete barriers as well as repairs to existing steel handrails.
