Maimane envisions an entrepreneurial-led Gauteng

SANDTON - Mmusi Maimane of the Democratic Alliance envisions an entrepreneurial-led Gauteng.

He was the speaker at a leadership conversation session at Regenesys Business School in Sandton. “Leadership and political leadership is a vital dynamic that stirs the economy,” said Maimane. “Our leaders are currently not approaching the economy in the right way. The right leadership grows the economy. For any economy to grow we need equity. A functioning leadership is vital for a successful economy.”

Maimane said the involvement of government in business was one of the main causes of corruption in the country. “Government should not be running business, businesses should be running business,” he said.

Maimane added that government issuing tenders was not a problem, but how the tenders were being issued was cause for concern because the process was not transparent. He said, “The problem with corruption is that it benefits the few at the expense of many. Corruption thrives when there’s exclusive knowledge. We’ve got to take a harder line on corruption.”

He said the Democratic Alliance was invested in growing the economy through the advancement of entrepreneurship. “We are going to roll out an academy for entrepreneurs in Gauteng,” he said. “The DA wants to make opportunity centres for entrepreneurs. It is disappointing that so many young people cannot find work.”
