Road closures for Rock the Run

SANDTON - Several road closures will be in place in Sandton on 16 March for the Hyundai Rock the Run event.

Hyundai’s Rock the Run is South Africa’s first 10 and 21.1km running event that uniquely combines running with live music performances. The race will start at the Mushroom Farm Park, and will move through the streets of Sandton’s business district.

Francois Marais, marketing manager at Hyundai Automotive South Africa said, “Given that we expect about 11 000 athletes to take part in this event, the safety of both runners and residents in the area is important for us. For this reason Hyundai, together with the Metro police, will instate partial road closures through the affected route.”

Alternate routes have been identified and the Metro police will be on hand at various points on the route to manage traffic flow and to give information to motorists. “Our aim is to ensure that Hyundai Rock the Run would be an enjoyable experience for both athletes and residents, and we are committed to doing so by informing and notifying the community timely,” added Marais. “We appeal to the public to familiarise themselves with the road closures and route map and to plan their travels for 16 March by using alternate routes.”

Some of the Sandton routes that will be affected include Linden Street, Rivonia Road, Daisy Street, Katherine Drive, Pretoria Avenue and West Street.
