South Africa’s first musical race

SANDTON- Hyundai's Rock the Run is an event that combines running with live music performances en-route, and is celebrated with a massive after-party concert. Expecting 11 000 athletes for the first musical race, Sandton City has designed a scenic race course with three music stages positioned at key points on the route.

The race begins at Mushroom Farm Park, where participants will experience a challenging route of incline hills through the streets of Gauteng’s business capital. Every runner who crosses the finish line will receive a unique medal and gain access to the after-party in the park.

MiCasa, Freshly Ground, Brent Harris and the Jam, the Graeme Watkins Project, popular DJs, as well as sports presenters John Walland and Sasha Martinengo, are just a few of the names to perform on the day. All runners who complete the race will automatically be entered into a random draw, based on their race number, and will stand a chance to walk away with a brand new Hyundai i20. There will also be a number of other great prizes on offer during the day for race participants.

Hyundai marketing manager François Marais said, “We are extremely excited to introduce such a fun and unique event to South Africa. The cleverly-devised combination of sport, entertainment and good quality family fun is just another way we can actively engage with our vibrant nation.”

“Hyundai has always been aligned with sport, positioning our popular brand in the same light as the tangible and intangible qualities that sport represents – from commitment to excellence and discipline. What better way to create unity among our nation than by connecting entertainment with sport, and providing a little something for everyone through Rock the Run,” added Marais.

The event is also supporting The Starfish Foundation and The Sports Trust by donating a percentage of proceeds from entries towards their causes.

The park will accommodate all participants and spectators with live entertainment, food stalls, hot-air balloon rides, a car exhibition, a kiddie’s fun-corner with stilt walkers, clowns and performers, as well as a beer and VIP tent. Parking will be available at the Gautrain Station and at Sandton City.
