Fake cops rob couple

SANDHURST - A man and his girlfriend were victims of a robbery on the corner of Cleveland and Killarney roads, in Sandhurst.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for the Bramley police, said the couple was travelling in a white Porsche when they were stopped by a black Golf GTI which had blue police lights positioned on the dashboard of the car.

“The couple stopped their vehicle because they thought they were being stopped by the police,” explained Maphakela.

Three suspects emerged from the Golf wearing bullet proof vests and reflector jackets. Maphakela said, “One of them approached the driver and requested to see his driver’s license. While the man was reaching for his licence, the suspect pulled out a silver firearm and pointed it at him.” The suspects took two iPhones, a wallet, two pairs of sunglasses, a designer bag, jewellery and a Gautrain card.

Maphakela said, “We are appealing to the community to come forward with any information about the culprits. This is the second time that such a case has been reported to the Bramley police this month. If motorists are being stopped by what appears to be a police vehicle, do not stop in an isolated area – drive to the nearest petrol garage or anywhere that is public.”
