Facilitating movement on William Nicol Drive

SANDTON - The Johannesburg Roads Agency has introduced a right-turning arrow on the southbound lane on William Nicol Drive.

Ward 90 councillor Gordon Mackay said the roads agency had done this to facilitate car movement off William Nicol Drive towards St Andrews Road and into Hurlingham. “A new pedestrian route has been indicated but not demarcated, so pedestrians continue to take their life into their own hands by crossing at the corner of St Andrews Road and William Nicol Drive,” he said.

This comes after two police vans collided with a passenger vehicle opposite Rosebank Union Church on the corner of William Nicol Drive and St Andrews Road on 8 January. On 9 January, fifteen people were injured when a taxi overturned on the corner of William Nicol and Sandton drives.

Mackay added, “I am suggesting that the roads agency provides demarcated turning lanes at the intersection to assist with traffic. I’m also requesting a speed camera on the corner of St Andrews Road and William Nicol Drive to catch motorists who speed, and those who jump the traffic lights at the intersection because these are two of the main causes of the accidents on William Nicol Drive.”
