11 distinctions for Bryanston High School’s deputy head boy

TIMOTHY Denton is proof that a busy and involved person is a successful person.

He celebrated his hard work during 2013 by achieving 11 distinctions – in English, Afrikaans, maths, life orientation, physical science, life sciences, engineering, graphics and design, geography, maths paper 3 and advanced programme maths. Most outstanding of all, Denton achieved an outstanding 98 percent for mathematics and physical science. He has been accepted to study Actuarial Science at the University of Pretoria in 2014.

He won 14 awards at the Bryanston High School valedictory ceremony in October. His academic skill and attention to detail has continued to amaze not only his teachers but also his class mates. This academic excellence is carried with quiet confidence and no bravado but is a result of clear thinking and a great work ethic.

Denton has shone in the arena of olympiads. He was placed in the top 20 in the Science Olympiad and was invited to participate in science week. He won the second round of the Mathematics Olympiad and went on to represent Southern Gauteng A-Team in the Inter-Provincial Mathematics Olympiad. He was placed third in the General Knowledge Olympiad in 2012 and was placed second, provincially, in 2013.

Being an academic is only a small facet of his ability. Denton toured with the rugby team to Europe in 2012 where he played scrumhalf. He has played first team tennis for two years and was the school’s vice-captain. His peers recognised his leadership qualities and as a member of the executive, he worked constantly on the councillor body.

Denton has cemented his ideals and work ethic into the ethos of the school.

Ever humble, Denton said, “I’ll take with me fond memories of my time at Bryanston High School as I venture forward.”
