Cape Epic route revealed

BLIND Ambition team, Hein Wagner and Gerrie Olivier set the tone for the 2014 Absa Cape Epic at the Radisson Blu Gautrain Hotel.

Olivier is a four-time Absa Cape Epic finisher and he invited Wagner, who is blind, to be his partner in the 2011 race.

A short video of the two’s emotional journey and experience at the 2011 Absa Cape Epic was aired at the 2014 route launch on 30 October. “The chances of failing were bigger than the chances of succeeding,” said Olivier.

Wagner, a motivational speaker said he wanted to show everybody that anything was possible. “It is definitely the hardest thing I’ve ever done,” he said.

Their inspirational journey served as a source of motivation to the 2014 entrants set to embark on the gruelling eight-day race from 23 to 30 March. The route launch revealed a dramatic new route of 718km with 14 850m of climbing.
