Mandela Square honours Tambo’s legacy

THE opening of a vase exhibition was held at the Mandela Square to honour Oliver Tambo’s wife, Adelaide Tambo.

The initiative was led by their daughter, Tselane Tambo who is also running the Adelaide Tambo Vase Organisation. Guests gathered at the Mandela Square to view and purchase Adelaide inspired vases. The auction of the various pieces took place on 25 October and part of the proceeds went to various charities.

“As much as she (Adelaide) was deeply involved in the struggle for the liberation of South Africa, she was a great collector of vases which adorned the family house in London,” said Tselane.

Nicholas Maweni, a family friend and guest at the event added, “Adelaide loved vases and anyone who visited her home would have seen that on every surface there were several vases because this was her passion.”

Mavuso Msimang, chief executive officer of the Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Foundation said, “The foundation fully supports the spirit and objectives of this project and would be delighted if sympathetic institutions and organisations were to give generously to ensure the success of the Adelaide Tambo Vase Organisation.” Details: Louise Portnoy; 011-485-2614.
