Cara single goes international

South African singer Cara, 22 of Sandhurst, has been invited to perform overseas.

Cara’s first stop will be France where she will perform at a horse show jumping event. She was attracted to the sport in high school and is still active within the horse community. “I use the things I learn in show jumping in singing. It provides me with self-discipline, dedication and perseverance,” she said.

She will also sing at the Holi One Colour festival in Miami and the Amsterdam Dance Event. “I am the only South African to do the American leg and will be playing a 45 minute set.”

Cara has been fortunate to work with international producers and writers in the past few months in Los Angeles and London.

“Devoting time to professional and influential people has led to the most incredible experiences. My first album will be a fusion of material I have recorded in all these places, as well as right here at home,” said Cara.

She has been influenced by singer-songwriters Amy Winehouse, Ella Fitzgerald, Eartha Kitt and more recently Rihanna.

She describes her sound as eclectic, with jazz, indie and dance pop being her main focus.

Aware that singers must stand out from the crowd, Cara said “strong vocals, charisma and a magnet for the world are important”.

“You need people to buy into what you are doing and who you are, on and off stage. It also helps to have a strong team behind you keeping you grounded, which I do.”
