BHCC welcome creativity for 70th year anniversary, held in Sandton

Baragwanath Hospital Comforts Committee celebrated 70 years by painting baby-grows for donations.

The Baragwanath Hospital Comforts Committee (BHCC), a registered hospital and clinic outreach NPO, chose The House of Yay at The Marc in Sandton as the perfect venue for celebrating their 70th jubilee.

The guests were invited to bring their artistic touch along on September 14, to brighten the lives of newborns by creatively transforming baby sleepsuits into works of art.

BHCC chairperson Cheryl Wagner reflected on how the event honoured the organisation’s ethos and mission.

“Today’s team maintains the same ethos as its founding committee and welcomes the spirit of giving and dedication to the betterment of others,” said Wagner. “Every volunteer brings a spirit of selflessness and positivity that encourages us to continue in the footsteps of our founders back in 1954.”

Wagner said since the organisation was established, it had continued to rely on the support of volunteers giving their time. She concluded with a reflection on what necessitates the BHCC, as well as what was done with all the baby sleepsuits turned into art at the event.

“The South African public health care system faces many challenges in the years ahead, and we know that our small team and our donors positively impact the lives of poverty-stricken patients and overworked clinicians. These creations will be donated to new moms and babies at post-natal wards and ante-natal clinics.”

The organisation operates in three main areas of activity to establish the needs of hospital and clinic patients – hospital necessities, the Bread for Life feeding scheme, and transportation grants.

The organisation seeks to provide monthly outreach to patients of the many public health clinics and hospitals in the greater Johannesburg region. It partners with social workers, therapists, and clinicians to establish the needs of these patients.
The BHCC meets monthly at a venue in Pineslopes, Fourways, and can be contacted on 073 601 0502.
