Police search for suspects after armed robbery at jewellery store in Bryanston

Witnesses in the area said they could hear multiple gunshots.

Randburg police have confirmed the armed robbery at Bryanston Jewellers.

According to police, a group of armed men stormed the store and smashed display glass at 14:00 on September 30. The suspects made off with an unknown amount of jewellery escaping in a hail of bullets. They fled Winifred Mandela Precinct (formerly Nicolway Shopping Centre) in a red Nissan and grey hyundai sedan.

No injuries were reported and the suspects are still at large.

Jewellery store: A target

Unfortunately, this is not the first time jewellery stores have been targeted at the centre. In May 2015 a separate store was hit: UPDATE: Nicolway speaks out after robbery.

In the same year, in July there was an attempted robbery, read more here: Attempted robbery at Nicolway Mall

In August 2016 suspects broke into the store by smashing a window.

Again in August 2020, six male suspects broke into another jewellery store in the same centre by breaking the display window using housebreak-in tools.

The public has been asked to avoid the area as a robbery at a jewellery store has been reported in Bryanston.

It appears a gang of armed suspects entered Winifred Mandela Precinct (formerly Nicolway Shopping Centre) at 14:00 today. Law enforcement and security are on the scene.

An employee at the centre said, “I saw about eight people with handheld guns. I am not sure how long it took… maybe about five minutes. Shots were fired as they were leaving.”
