A journey beyond the summit for locals

As Nolan Pillay and his team, continue to inspire with their achievements, their story resonates as a beacon of positivity and unity within the Sandton community and beyond.

Nolan Pillay and his companions from Sandton have returned triumphant from their recent expedition to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, not only conquering the peak but also advancing causes close to their hearts.

This climb was more than a physical challenge; it was a mission dedicated to raising awareness for cancer, promoting mental wellness, and supporting the creation of their Skills Village initiative.

Led by Pillay, alongside Sivan Schafer and Denise Sagathavan, the team’s journey was a testament to courage and commitment.

Supported by a dedicated ground team, sponsors, and supporters, they exemplified what it means to push boundaries for noble causes.

For Pillay, this marked his third successful ascent of Kilimanjaro, maintaining a perfect record with the Be The Best Version of Yourself Foundation.

“This climb was a personal challenge for me, but with the support of an incredible team, we pushed through. Our causes for cancer awareness, mental wellness, and the Skills Village initiative have been profoundly blessed by this experience. The memory of our fellow climber, Reesha, guided us every step of the way.”

In honour of their journey and to further their impact, the foundation announced donations of R15 000 each to the Thandanani Centre for Mental Wellness and Beacon of Care for Cancer. These contributions underscore the power of community and collaboration in driving meaningful change.

One remarkable highlight of their expedition was the initiative by East Side Barbers, a vital partner of the foundation.

Sivan Schafer, owner of East Side Barbers, proposed a bold gesture – shaving heads at the summit in solidarity with cancer patients, a feat rarely attempted in extreme conditions.

East Side Barbers, known for more than just haircuts but also community building, embodies a spirit of compassion and solidarity.

Looking ahead, the foundation aims to establish the Skills Village, a project designed to empower youth and create employment opportunities.

Pillay expressed their need for support. “We are seeking funding to launch the Skills Village, where our goal is to positively impact one million lives. We invite anyone interested in joining our cause to get involved.”

To everyone who supported them, whether near or far, Pillay expressed heartfelt gratitude. “Thank you for believing in our mission. Together, we are not just scaling new heights but also shaping a future filled with hope, resilience, and opportunity.”
