South Africa’s most decorated Olympian, Tatjana Smith, received a hero’s welcome from Discovery on August 19, as she returned home after her stunning performances at the Paris Olympics.

As the Discovery Vitality Ambassador, Smith has been a source of inspiration and pride for South Africans, and her achievements have solidified her place in the nation’s sporting history.

Smith’s recent Olympic success saw her winning gold in the 100m breaststroke and securing a silver medal in the 200m breaststroke.

These victories have made her South Africa’s most decorated Olympic athlete, with an impressive tally of two gold and two silver medals across her career.

Her retirement announcement came as a bittersweet moment, marking the end of an era for one of the country’s greatest athletes.

“I could not have achieved what I have without the incredible support from the people of South Africa. It’s been an incredible journey, and I am so thankful for everyone who has been part of it.”

She added she did not expect this grand welcome event, and was happy to be home.

“It is so great to see many people coming to see and celebrate with me, thank you so much for the love and support.”
