The persistent water leak behind Medi-Clinic Sandton is causing concern in Ward 102.
The issue, which has been ongoing for several months, has drawn attention to the inefficiencies within the municipal services, with little to no progress being made despite the matter being reported numerous times.
Ward 102 councillor Lucinda Harman expressed her frustration over the lack of action from Johannesburg Water (JW).
Harman said, “the situation behind Medi-Clinic Sandton has become a serious problem. This leak has been reported multiple times, but there has been no meaningful response. It’s disheartening to see this kind of negligence, especially when water is such a precious resource.”
The leak, located near Banbury Street, has created not only an environmental concern but also poses potential safety risks.
Watch:
According to Harman, as much as JW responds to some issues, it has been slow to respond to infrastructure issues such as this, with many residents questioning the effectiveness of the city’s maintenance and repair protocols.
The lack of action on this matter is particularly troubling given the city’s ongoing efforts to promote water conservation and the responsible use of resources.
When contacted about this issue on August 20, the spokesperson for JW Nombuso Shabalala said they would respond after receiving feedback from the depot.
The publication followed up on the inquiry on August 26. Shabalala responded, “please provide the reference number for the leak so that I can follow up with the depot for feedback.”
No comment was received from Shabalala by the time of going online.
