Netball tournament at Discovery George Lea Park

Women from across the region came together at Discovery George Lea Park for an exhilarating netball tournament on Women's Day.

On Women’s Day, the Discovery George Lea Park came alive as teams gathered for a vibrant netball tournament, celebrating women’s empowerment through sport.

The event, organised and hosted by Hlengiwe Dongo and Claudia Mosenye, aimed to promote gender equality by showcasing the strength, resilience, and talent of women athletes.

The atmosphere was electric, with cheers from supporters echoing throughout the park as women of all ages displayed their athletic prowess.

Mosenye emphasised the importance of such events, noting how they encouraged young girls to participate in sports, break down gender barriers, and promote a healthy, active lifestyle.

“The event was a tremendous success. We began with a refreshing yoga session and ended with an intense competition, with the ladies battling it out for the R5 000 voucher prize,” she said.

She added tournaments such as these truly embodied the spirit of women’s empowerment as they brought women together in a joyful celebration of strength and camaraderie, fostering new friendships and shared experiences.
