Residents of Rivonia and the surroundings had the opportunity to meet and engage with their local police officers in a relaxed setting on August 8 during the Coffee with a Cop event held at Rivonia Village Shopping Centre.

The event, which aims to foster positive relationships between the community and law enforcement, drew a steady crowd throughout the day.

The initiative allowed residents to discuss a range of topics – from local crime concerns to traffic issues, in an informal environment.

Sergeant Mpho Lechaba, who led the event, emphasised the importance of building trust between the police and the community.

“Events like these are crucial for breaking down barriers and promoting transparency. We want the community to see us as approachable and here to help.”

Lechaba added that other reasons for this activation are to provide valuable information and resources about gender-based violence, to promote safety and build trust in the community, and to celebrate and recognise National Women’s Day by addressing women’s safety and rights.

Sussan Ogunlende expressed appreciation for the activation, noting that it provided a unique opportunity to interact with law enforcement officers outside of formal situations.

“It is great to see the police taking the time to listen to us in such a friendly setting.”

She highlighted that it makes a big difference knowing they are invested in our safety and well-being.

Lechaba said the activation was a success by both the police and the community, with plans already underway for future meet-ups.
