Poor road repair in Bryanston a concern

Road Repairs on Clonmore Road done, but quality questioned by local councillor.

Residents of Clonmore and Kildon roads in Bryanston have mixed feelings following the recent road surface repairs carried out in their area.

While the long-awaited repairs have finally been done Ward 102 councillor Lucinda Harman has expressed concern over the quality of the work and the communication issues between the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) and residents.

Harman said she escalated this matter many times, but the JRA ignored her inquiries and the ones of the residents. Eventually, she ended up reaching out to the Region B director for assistance.

The road surface had been in dire need of repair for some time, since it got damaged by a three water pipe burst that occurred, with numerous complaints from residents about the worsening condition of the road.

The repairs were eventually undertaken last week, but according to Harman, the results aren’t satisfactory.

“While we are grateful that the road has been repaired, the workmanship is a concern, and the job is not complete.” the councillor stated.

She said that looking at the surface you can see how uneven it is, and the team left some excavation.

“It is disappointing because the community deserves better, the team left without cleaning up some of the excavation and it would have looked better if the repairs were done in one patch, not in sections.”

Despite the poorly done job, the community is relieved that something was done, even if it is not complete.

One resident commented, “It is not perfect, but at least they did something. The road was in terrible shape before.”

Harman will continue to hold JRA accountable for addressing the concerns and future projects in Ward 102.

“My priority is to fight for the infrastructure in Bryanston to be safe and well-maintained. We will continue to advocate for better services for our community.”
