Spark Rivonia High recently partnered with the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) to host an educational voting day, giving learners hands-on experience in the democratic process.
This event aimed to instil a sense of civic duty and understanding of the electoral system among the learners.
The school’s grounds were transformed into a bustling polling station, complete with voting booths, ballot boxes, and IEC officials overseeing the process.
Learners from various grades participated, learning about the importance of voting and how elections are conducted.
Throughout the day, learners had the opportunity to vote in a simulated election, choosing from a list of fictional candidates. This exercise was designed to mimic the real-world voting experience, from registration to casting ballots and, finally, counting the votes.
Teachers and IEC representatives provided guidance and answered questions, ensuring the learners understood each step of the process.
The simulation was not only an educational exercise but also a fun and engaging way to bring the concepts of democracy and civic responsibility to life.
