Sandton welcomes a tale of 2Lovers

An inspired script by Ter Hollman has found its way to Sandton’s prestigious stage.

Imagine two ex-lovers meeting in the future with a whole world of changes between them, separating who they are – from whom they had been to one another.

The opening night of 2Lovers on May 30 presented a hilarious opportunity to reflect on meaningful love, loyalty, fidelity, trust and the quality of companionship in a functional relationship.

This production followed the lives of David and Annabel, who meet out of the blue one day – years after their relationship had ended. The audience then gets to experience Annabel and David’s relationship backwards – from where things went wrong, to their awkward first encounter.

Written by Ter Hollman (who also portrays David), 2Lovers also stars Tessa Jubber as Annabel. This production was directed by Craig Morris, who shared the production’s two-year journey to reaching the Sandton audiences.

“This is the first time that we are privileged to have a proper platform, and a proper season, here at Theatre on the Square,” Morris said. “We’ve had small runs at festivals; we performed in Makhanda last year, where we won the Silver Ovation Award – which I think is very deserving for this play because it’s so clever.”

Morris reflected on where the show began in South Africa until reaching its targeted audience.

“We had three shows at the PopArt Theatre in Maboneng, where they were kind to host us there for a few shows. Moving forward, we have plans for it to continue for quite some time, and people knowing that it has been performed at Theatre on the Square says a lot about the quality of the production.

“We know that this audience will identify with this story, so we’re happy to be performing here.”

The show will run at the Theatre on the Square until June 15.
