A glance back at the year of theatre in Sandton City

Sandton’s Theatre on the Square has consistently been a great source of substantial news throughout 2023, and the Sandton Chronicle looks forward to covering more from the local theatre house in 2024.

Theatre-owner Daphne Kuhn and her team comprising Mika Stefano, Regina Dube, Bronwen Hirshowitz, Loftus, Mohale, Reggie Mthebe, Maggie Mabuza, Melidah Thakadu, Boni Sekeleko and Noble Pat have been very giving with their space in 2023.

From Seeing Other People, to Rambunctious; to Finding Rosetta and Nothing But the Truth – Theatre on the Square has delivered some truly soul-reviving theatre last tear.

The forecast for 2024 is a great deal more stage productions on Nelson Mandela Square.

“As a vibrant cultural hub on Sandton’s Nelson Mandela Square, we’re dedicated to generating work opportunities and producing superb entertainment for every taste,” Kuhn said. “Here’s to a thrilling and culturally uplifting New Year ahead!”

In addition to achieving 20 Naledi awards and nominations in recognition of theatre excellence, Theatre on the Square produced and presented 25 seasons of new drama productions, comedies, and musical theatre; hosted 45 classical lunch hour concerts; and successfully organized over 50 corporate events, fundraisers, youth theatre, school productions, dance showcases, and jazz concerts.
