Meet Bryanston Primary School’s motivated student teacher

Ané Els taught at Bryanston Primary School for five weeks as part of her coursework through UNISA.

It’s always delightful to meet one’s neighbour – especially when they bring a vibrant new energy into town. Ané Els joined the Bryanston community this year to further her career as a student educator at Bryanston Primary School.

Else, who is in training to teach consumer and business studies to grade 10 – 12 learners, spent the past five weeks teaching Grade 7 economic and management studies (EMS) to Bryanston Primary School learners towards completing her UNISA practical coursework. According to Els, the opportunity allowed her to explore the dynamics of primary education.

“My experience as a student teacher at Bryanston Primary School was truly rewarding: Working as a student teacher was filled with special moments,” said Els.

Els currently resides in Bryanston. She moved from Bloemfontein at the beginning of this year. According to Els, her educators were her motivation for wanting to become a teacher.

“[I] was greatly influenced by my high school teachers at Eunice High School in Bloemfontein,” Els said. “I’m motivated by the desire to make a positive impact on my future students’ lives by not only imparting knowledge but also providing support and guidance; the way my high school teachers assisted me.”

According to Els, the weeks that she spent at the school allowed her to connect with students, teachers, and the community. Els recalled some of the special highlights from her time at Bryanston Primary School:

“The students’ plea for me to extend my stay was heartwarming,” said Els. “A learner’s drawing of me, representing their appreciation, was a touching gesture that highlighted the bond we had formed.”

Else thanks the Bryanston community for embracing her with open arms.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the warm welcome and support during my time at Bryanston Primary School,” Els concluded. “The dedication of the teachers and the genuine concern for the students’ well-being truly impressed me.”
