MCC men’s F side hockey team scores victory over Crusaders men’s D side

Morningside Country Club’s men’s F hockey team pulled off an impressive victory against St Stithians’s Crusaders D team at the Morningside Country Club.

The Morningside Country Club’s (MCC) senior hockey season wrapped up over the weekend, with several exciting matches being played by the club’s teams against worthy adversaries.

The MCC men’s F team played a victorious mid-morning match against the visiting Crusaders D team from St Stithian’s College on August 20. The first two quarters were evenly matched, and it remained 0–0 at the half-time buzzer.

In the third quarter of the league match, the home team applied consistent pressure on Crusaders, breaking through their defence on numerous occasions. This resulted in MCC’s Michael Rorich scoring the only two goals in the second half of the match, securing a definitive 2–0 win.

“I just wanted to score,” said Rorich. “I had the inside ball on the line on the advantage of a short corner, then I went through and went for the crack. I don’t think about it, most of the time I just hit and hope. And I celebrate afterwards, after the realisation that it went in.”

According to Rorich, it’s his love for the team and the club which motivates him to play.

“I mean, this is my hobby. Outside of work, this is where I meet friends I would never have met in the norm of my life.”

Similarly enthusiastic about hockey is Ian Gentleman – one of the outstanding goalkeepers for the Crusaders D team who enjoyed an eventful third-quarter performance.

“That was good,” Gentleman said. “Unlucky on the goal, it was a very great strike by [Rorich]. Other than that, we played well and I did my job where I had to try to save the other one.”
