Mrs South Africa focused on empowering youth and women

A local-based wife, and mother who describes her Mrs South African journey as transformative.

One can think being the reigning Mrs South Africa is all about photoshoots and events, but Palesa Matjekane, who is seven months into her reign, begs to differ.

A wife, mother of two, and businesswoman based in Bryanston who originates from Sebokeng in the Vaal describes her journey as transformative and said the Mrs South Africa platform is bigger than photoshoots and events.

Matjekane is a resilient, powerful figure who educates and empowers youth and women and is described as a philanthropist at heart.

She has a charming eloquence of speech, an erudite mind, and a glow of positive light, so it is no wonder she is set for success in the emceeing and public speaking space.

“I emcee for my foundation’s events and intend to explore it more,” she added.

As the founder and chair of the seven-year-old Women Formation Foundation-Africa, Matjekane will be rolling out the digital skills youth development campaign under the foundation.

“I will be sponsoring the Tsholo and Qhuweng High Schools’ learners and teachers with laptops. I will equip the teacher to assist the learners with resumes and university applications.”

Her Mrs South Africa role, which encompasses motivating the pageant’s new semifinalists, is a culmination of Matjekane’s foundation’s mentorships. The foundation aligns its efforts with the United Nations and the African Union’s calendars.

She added that her career guidance initiative for young people was close to her heart.

“I love doing career guidance at least once a month. An annual week-long boot camp is done to grow this initiative, and I reach out to brands that would support my course.”
