St David’s Marist Boys: building bridges, changing lives through active service

In a true testament to Marist Education's commitment to active service and youth empowerment; the boys at St David’s Marist Inanda have dedicated themselves to making a positive impact in their communities.

In the spirit of active service, St David’s Marist Inanda boys, staff, and parents recently came together with the residents of Little Eden in Bapsfontein for a pecan nut collection.

They paid a visit to Little Eden, a home for individuals with intellectual disabilities, which relies on such initiatives to generate funds. This collaboration served as a bridge between generations and fostered a love for meaningful work among the participants. By engaging in this activity, the boys demonstrated their dedication to being change-makers and building a better future for all.

The boys’ weekly service took them to Alexandra, where they actively participated in working and playing with the children at the local creche, as well as spending quality time with the elderly at the old age home. These intergenerational relationships have flourished, bringing joy and wisdom to both the young and the elderly, as they cherish their shared experiences.

Addressing the issue of period poverty, Selima House spearheaded a sanitary pad collection programme in collaboration with MC Weiler Primary. This special event was made even more remarkable with the generous donation of textbooks from the Ferndale bookstore and shoes from Little Eden. Such acts of kindness and support contribute to breaking down barriers and empowering young girls to overcome challenges related to menstrual hygiene.

Through their actions, the boys of St David’s Marist Inanda demonstrate that they are not only learning, but also living the lessons of active service, fostering intergenerational connections, addressing social issues, and working towards positive change. Their commitment to being true change-makers serves as an inspiration to their peers and the wider community, leaving a lasting impact on the lives they touch.
