Meet Boitumelo Phaho, the multitalented young girl

When you can perform an action that elicits emotions within not only yourself but with others too, that is art.

Boitumelo Phaho doesn’t just play instruments, she’s also an avid lover of reading. The 16-year-old Grade 11 learner, at St Stithians Girls College, was born and raised by her parents in Sandton.

According to Boitumelo, she began playing the piano while she was in Grade 2 in 2014 and has continued to do so since she enjoys music as well as other forms of art. She began playing the French horn when she was in Grade 6.

“The truth is that my parents allowed me the freedom of choice to pursue whatever I chose from an early age.”

“People often assume that a family member or close friend is the reason I started studying the arts. In addition to challenging me, playing the French horn was good for my health. My entire life has been impacted by asthma. I’ve had less sickness since I started playing the instrument, and my respiratory control is much better,” said Boitumelo.

Managing her studies and enthusiasm has required experimenting, according to Boitumelo. She has developed a defined routine for the entire year that properly balances everything over the years. She still tries to find the ideal balance for her downtime, but she believes that scheduling and establishing short-term objectives for herself that make her feel successful are the keys.

He strongest memory of her childhood was playing the piano when her family hosted Christmas in 2015. Her maternal grandmother kept pestering her to play the piece repeatedly.

She likes meeting new people within the piano world and establishing friendly relationships with other pianists that last over years and friendly competition and she dislikes how intense the competition and pressure can become.

Boitumelo also finds joy in expanding her knowledge through novels. The love she has for novels started when she was young. Last year she read around 140 books, and whilst not all of them she enjoyed, she was able to research the information to articulate her critique of the novel’s writing.
