Six-year-old publishes her first book

In her first book, a Grade 1 learner portrays the important message of being unique and special and how it takes all of us to create a colourful, beautiful world.

At just six years old, Redhill learner Hallelujah Khumalo has made history by becoming one of the youngest authors to publish a book in South Africa.

Where I Fit is the story of a puzzle piece portrayed as a human who seems unable to figure out where she fits in.

Hallelujah says the book highlights an important message by showing people that they can fit in everywhere; one doesn’t have to be like anyone else to fit in.

“I was inspired by my two favourite authors, Roald Dahl, and Dr. Seuss. When it comes to this story, I know that sometimes people feel like they don’t fit in; I have felt that way, so I wrote this book for us.”

She explains that the journey to writing and publishing this book was fun, despite the illustrations’ challenges.

“I feel like the book was a fun project, and I look forward to creating more books.”

Hallelujah’s mom, Theodore Khumalo, says she is happy to see her daughter making big boss moves and doing what she loves.

“Seeing her step into herself for what God placed her here to do is humbling, and walking with her on her journey is a privilege.”

She explains that Hallelujah has always loved reading and books since the age of three, and she is an enabling element in her life story.

Theodore adds that this book journey has brought them together as a family. They thank their friends, family, and everyone who has been on their side since day one of the Where I Fit journey.
