Media launch of Mahika Mafikeng music festival

The return of the Mahika Mafikeng Cultural Music Festival was announced on March 1 at eDikeni in Sandton.
After a three-year pause due to the pandemic, organisers of the festival invited guests and artists to share their concerns about the festival. Thato Molosankwe, participant of the launch, stated that this year’s festival does not align with the culture of Mafikeng as majority of the performers are outside of the cultural genre space.

“I think that this is a very appropriate time to bring back the festival to the people of Mafikeng. The goal of this festival is to bring back joy within North West, the result of the pandemic had a lot of negative effects on everyone and we are trying hard to revive . The second goal is to revive the economy of the province. Everyone has their own expectations, mine is to see it packed with happy people,” said musical artist and ambassador of the festival,Tshepo Seate, professionally known as Stoan.

Stoan added, “music is generational and cultural as a whole, the culture that we live in today, is completely different from the past. We need to appreciate all forms of music as they represent each ones identity.”

The festival will commence on March 17 and conclude on March 19.

“I am so privileged to have this opportunity of performing. It hits different being recognised at home. I am more than happy to be representing my hometown,” said musician Tshenolo Sebogodi professionally known as T.S.

The Mahika Mafikeng team announced that the second edition to the festival will in December.
