IIE Varsity College lends a helping hand to the Diepsloot community

Khumo Project assists learners of Diepsloot Primary School by donating stationeries during their celebration of Valentine's Day.

The joint IIE Varsity College campaign known as the Khumo Project between two institutions, Varsity College Sandton campus and Msa formally known as Monash South Africa, donated stationery to a school situated in Diepsloot.

Since its initial start back in 2021, the project has been working very closely with the staff members and learners of Diepsloot Primary School to provide them with enough resources. On their recent visit to the school, members of the project donated book covering materials and stationery for the learners of grades R and 1.

On Valentine’s Day, Varsity College was able to raise R1 700 through a love-themed staff raffle and a hamper sponsored by Olives and Plates before heading to the primary school.

“It feels good to have won the hamper, but honestly, if possible, I would transfer this hamper to cash and donate the cash to Khumo. I believe the greatest gift you can give a child is your time. I am excited about spending time with some of the grade Rs and 1s when we help them to cover their books,” said the project manager of the college, Doreen Mukuku.

The project plans to add a pavement in front of the school kitchen, to paint classrooms and install educational charts in the lower grade classrooms. According to the event coordinator of IIE Varsity College, Anto Kagisho, staff members will assist the learners with covering their books on February 24.
