Husky Rescue SA listed a few events set to take place in the new year

The Chartwell-based husky haven has a number of items on the agenda for the new year in which community members can get involved.

Husky Rescue SA, an NPO based in Farmall near Chartwell that has a rescue programme to accommodate unwanted, abandoned, and, very often, abused dogs is looking forward to the new year.

Speaking on behalf of the haven, the head of fundraising and public relations at Husky Rescue, Gilli Read said community members who want to get involved in assisting the organisation financially are encouraged.

“Passive assistance in the form of a MySchool card is incredibly simple and quick to do. All that needs to be done is fill in an application form and name Husky Rescue SA as your chosen beneficiary,” she said.

“Our greatest wish for all our huskies is for them to find good, loving, forever homes. For the immediate future, we simply need to be able to keep and care for these animals to the highest standards that we have always, and will always, strive for.”

There were many words of thanks that went to a number of community members and volunteers at the haven. These include Joanne van Niekerk, landlords, their two kennel men and committee members for their assistance in time and talent, transporting dogs, and contributing to the financial well-being of the organisation.

Husky Rescue South Africa had celebrated a number of events which they looked back on such as sponsors in the Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg race and a golf day. There are a number of goals to be achieved for the organisation in the new year.

“We plan on having a variety of events including walks, boot camps, wine tasting, Easter at the Haven, quiz and karaoke nights, a golf day, a sleepover at the Haven and the 94.7 Ride Joburg cycling team again. We will print our annual calendar and are planning to produce a recipe book,” she said.

“Public support is vital to any charity organisation and we encourage people to visit us on any Saturday or make an appointment to meet the dogs with our haven manager, Joanne van Niekerk.”
