Guests of Theatre on the Square celebrate Rangmanch Pravesh

Master of ceremonies Aashmuki Teeluck welcomes guests to Deepna Nathoo Rugbeer's Rangmanch Pravesh at the Theatre of the Square in Sandton.

A gathering celebrating Deepna Nathoo Rugbeer’s Rangmanch Pravesh brought a full house to the Theatre on the Square in Sandton.

One of the most important milestones of a dancer in the Indian culture is referred to as the Kathak Rangmanch Pravesh. According to indianspice.co.za ‘A Rangmanch Pravesh is a milestone in the life of a dancer. It demands complete control and command over the intricacies and nuances of Kathak.’ During this ceremony, a dancer who has been studying the craft of traditional dancing receives their recognition as a solo performer as stated by the Aashmuki Teeluck.

Families and close friends of Rugbeer were all excited to finally see the many years of hard work which was displayed on stage following a life music performance led by Shanjeet Teeluck and his representatives on November 20.

The ceremony featured a message from the guest of honour, Professor Jay Pather, a deeper insight of the North Indian dance classical dance form Kathak which was curated by the master of ceremonies, Aashmuki Teeluck.

“This programme that we witnessed was prepared by Rugbeer at an early age of five with her teacher Pravika Nandkishore. It was an interaction between the musicians and the dancer which has been amazing. It’s like a graduation ceremony and it also marks the beginning of the next step in her dance career,” said Teeluck.
