Sandton police report carjacking and theft of/out of vehicle trend

Sandton Police reports trends of carjacking and theft of/out of motor vehicle across the various policing sectors between November 7 and November 13.

Sandton Police recently recorded trends of carjacking and theft of/out of motor vehicles in the policing precinct.

The latest crime trend for the beginning of November, most cases reported in Sector 1 were theft of motor vehicles. Victims would park at a shopping centre and upon returning, notice that their vehicle had been stolen.

Sector 1 includes the suburbs of Edenburg, Gallo Manor, Khyber Rock, Morningside Manor Ext 2, Rivonia, Sunninghill, Woodlands and Woodmead.

Targeted suburbs include Sunninghill and Edenburg, mainly between the hours of 8:00 and 11:59, and 20:00 to 23:59 on Thursdays and Fridays.

Sector 2, which includes the suburbs of Brecknock AH, Bryanston, Klevehill Park, Lonehill, Paulshof, Petervale, Rietfontein, and River Club reported no noteworthy crime trends.

In Sector 3, theft out of the motor vehicle was prominent. In most cases, victims are parked in parking lots and upon returning, notice that their vehicle had been jammed or forced the window open. Mainly electronic equipment is targeted.

Sandton SAPS noted trends mainly in the suburbs of Morningside and Sandown between 16:00 and 19:59 on Wednesdays.

Sector 3 includes the suburbs of; Benmore Gardens, Dalecross, Dennehof, Duxberry, Hurlingham, Hurlpark, Little Filian, Moodie Hill, Morningside, Morningside Manor, Morningside Ext 40, New Brighton, Parkmore, Sandown, Sandhurst, Strathavon, Sunset Acres and the Panners/Kingswood Closure.

In Sector 4, carjacking cases mainly contributed to crimes in the sector. In most cases, suspects follow victims from different locations before robbing them of their motor vehicle in their driveaway when they are about to enter the yard or house.

Target suburbs include Buccleuch and Kelvin mainly between 1600 and 19:59, and 20:00 and 23:59 on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Sector 4 includes the suburbs of Buccleuch, Eastgate, Lower Gallo Manor, Kelvin, Kelvin View, Kramerville, Marlboro North, Wendywood and Wesco Park.
