Lycée Francais Jules Verne hosts soccer tournament for the benefit of youth
Morningside school Lycée Francais Jules Verne, successfully hosts the second edition of its soccer tournament which features the players from Sizanani.
A friendly soccer tournament hosted at the Morningside-based school, Lycée Francais Jules Verne, made its return with a positive turnout after having to be cancelled for two years due to the pandemic.
Participants of the annual tournament were the learners of the school, followed by their mentors, alumni, and the stars of the day, players from the Sizanani football team. The games which took place on November 5 started off with a gym session whereby all four teams got to know their opponents during their warm-up session.

According to Martin Sefzig, president of Stade Joburg, who initiated the tournament back in 2019, the main aim of the event is to open up opportunities for the players of Sizanani who are based in Alexandra.
From start to finish, all teams displayed true talents as they tried to be dominant. In the end, the learners of Lycée have been crowned the champions of the 2022 football tournament. As stated by Sefzig, the highlight of the day was not to showcase which team was the best but to connect people through soccer.

“This year was our second edition, and it was spectacular. My highlights of the day were watching the children play, they are good and of course the braai, which was organised by the by the school and Stade Joburg. We thank Saint-Gobain for providing the prizes on the day. Everyone was a winner in my eyes,” said Coralie Sefzig.

The coach of the Sizanani squad, Ngwato Bapela, shared a few words after the games were done, “Every game was great despite the last match which exposed our weaknesses throughout the match. I am grateful that we had this opportunity and we’re looking forward to many more.”
