Arrest made in connection with killing of off-duty Sandton officer

Hawks spokesperson confirms the arrest of the alleged suspect behind the murder of an off-duty Sandton police officer who was killed at a street barber shop in Bramley View.

The Hawks have confirmed that an arrest was recently made in connection with the killing of an off-duty police officer at a street barber shop in Bramley View.

The officer, a member of the Sandton police, was getting his hair cut on the corner of Keefe and Vangelder roads when an unknown gunman shot him in the forehead.

According to Hawks spokesperson Captain Lloyd Ramovha, the vehicle suspected to have been the getaway vehicle was identified and traced to the Bramley View neighbourhood.

“On September 15, a multi-disciplinary operation was conducted, led by the Serious Organised Crime Investigation team, in concert with K9, Metro police, Local Criminal Record Centre and Saturated Unit [and] the suspect was consequently arrested at his residence.”

Ramovha added that the firearm suspected to have been used in the incident was also seized, subject to a ballistic enquiry.

The suspected appeared in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on September 19.
