Redhill School learner awarded Springbok Scout badge

Victoria van Oerle has been hard at work, driving and organising a number of projects with the 1st Bryanston Scouts to obtain her Springbok Scout badge.

A 10-year-long commitment has paid for Redhill School’s Victoria van Oerle as she recently achieved her goal of obtaining a Springbok Scout badge.

The Springbok Scout badge is an incredibly hard award to achieve as it is the highest level of achievement for a youth member of the Scout Movement.

According to 1st Bryanston Scouts troop scouter Dieter Eckert, scouting challenges its members to experience fun, friendship and everyday adventure in an outdoor setting, helping them reach their full leadership all while having a positive impact on society.

“Victoria has shown that through hard work and focussed commitment that all young adults can accomplish the numerous tasks and challenges that leadership and life throw at them.”

Eckert added the Springbok award formed part of an integral part of the Scout Movements’ progressive system of leadership training and personal development.

“As a part of the requirements, Victoria had to plan, organise and lead several special projects which included building a wooden jungle gym for her community service project and a structural ‘pioneered’ tower over six metres high.

“Victoria’s highlight was her four-day hike along the Fanie Botha Trail in the beautiful Sabie area.”

Redhill School shared a message of pride for Victoria’s achievement.

“Victoria, we are amazed by you and proud of you. We hope you will inspire many Redhill students to follow in your footsteps,” said the school on social media.
