Runner from Plus 94 Research completes race of his life
Dunkeld West company, Plus 94 Research, wishes their employee, Thomas Barnato, safe travels for his quest on completing the Comrades Marathon.
Thomas Barnato who has been an active runner and lover of sports since his early childhood days finally got to live out his dreams of participating in the Comrades Marathon on August 28.
Barnato, who currently works for Plus 94 Research based in Dunkeld West said before the marathon, “The Comrades is the ultimate human race… I think for every runner it is just a matter of when you decided to partake and the target you set for yourself. This year, the opportunity presented itself by finding me, I had the idea of participating a year ago but never paid much attention to it. With my intense preparations since last year September, I have gained more confidence and courage to take on the challenge.”
He added his quest to do well in his Comrades Marathon debut was more than rewarding because he had a Comrades veteran guiding him, Tumelo Mosia who had participated in 10 Comrades Marathons.
The runner described his first experience of participating in the marathon as a phenomenal one.
“On race day, we stuck to the running plan we had set to reach the target goal… it is a good strategy to run in a pack as you are able to feed off each other’s energy… Lucky enough for me I did not get to experience the usual injuries that come with running.”
Barnato concluded by thanking God, his trainer and his team for completing his first Comrades Marathon with great ease.
