Sandton tennis player shares advice on being the best of the best

Tennis player O'Neil Chinwayi shares his secrets of being the best during one of his practice sessions at Parkmore with Next Generation Tennis.

It always seems that tennis and talent blend perfectly well at the Next Generation Tennis association, which is situated at George Lea Park in Parkmore.

O’Neil Chinwayi, who has been a part of the association for more than four years, has always made it his top priority to be the best before accomplishing his goal of playing abroad, which is soon to happen.

Born and raised in Zimbabwe, the aspiring professional tennis player started playing at the age of seven with his father. “One day my father picked me up from school and told me that we were going to play tennis. I didn’t know much about the sport at the time but my first time playing it was very special. That’s when I knew what I wanted to pursue,” said Chinwayi.

With the support of his family and God, Chinwayi has managed to make a name for himself in the world of tennis. The young player shared his secret to playing tennis well.

“There is power in consistency and if you are not consistent, you are going to be one step behind. You feel it when you play against other players, you have to strive to be in the position where you are always in the groove. That comes with consistency.”

One of the many goals the young tennis master currently has is to play aboard and, through his grandmother, that goal has been made possible.

“Long story short, one of my grandmother’s friends gave me the opportunity to study in Germany and that ignited my goal of playing tennis internationally. I leave in September and I am grateful for the big opportunity. Your dreams and individuality make you, you. The case of identity has been lingering in my head when playing tennis and I now know who I am,” concluded Chinwayi.
