Metro police make arrests in connection with carjackings in Sandton

Three suspects were arrested in Illovo for fraud, possession of carjacking implements and a signal jammer.

Three suspects were recently arrested by Metro police in Illovo for fraud, possession of carjacking implements and a signal jammer.

This followed an alert from private security officers operating in the area about a vehicle reportedly linked to other cases of theft in the Sandton area. The other cases involved the stealing of Toyota Prados, Lexus SUVs, Toyota Fortuners and Toyota Hilux bakkies.

According to Metro police spokesperson Xolani Fihla, officers responded and the vehicle with three male occupants (between the ages of 22 and 48) was stopped.

“Upon inspection, officers discovered that the vehicle was affixed with false registration numbers. The vehicle was searched and officers recovered carjacking implements and a military signal jammer.”

The suspects were arrested and detained at Bramley Police Station. The vehicle was seized and booked in at the SAPS Aeroton compound for verification.
