Drug abuse organisation Vuka Skhokho honoured by the City of Johannesburg

Marlboro’s very own community organisation Vuka Skhokho was honoured by the City of Johannesburg for its important role in helping to uplift the community.

Many organisations in the community continue to impact hundreds of lives in need without any acknowledgement.

The City of Johannesburg is hoping to change this by hosting a series of events to honour unsung heroes committed to making a difference in their community. The first of these events, which took place in July in Alexandra, paid special mention to Marlboro-based organisation, Vuka Skhokho (VS).

Vuka Skhokho, established in 2016, has worked to assist drug and substance abuse victims, as well as victims of gender-based violence in Marlboro and surrounding communities.

According to the organisation’s Hansraj Mitha, Vuka Skhokho has worked with the departments of health, sports and recreation, and social development as well as JMPS over the years.

“To be formally recognised and acknowledged for these years of the great partnership was amazing for the VS family,” he said.

He added that while the organisation did not put in the hours for the recognition, this acknowledgement would hopefully assist them in gaining more support to reach more individuals in need.

“We feel honoured, blessed and motivated to continue forwarding the blessings we receive on to others.”
