Sandton youth highlight the importance of women in society

In commemoration of Women's Day on August 9, we asked the community's young voices why they think it is important for women, both young and old, to play active roles in society.

With the commemoration of Women’s Day on August 9 we highlight the important role of women in history, and equally women today.

But why is it essential for society to have women, both young and old, play active roles in society and the community at large? This is what the community’s young voices had to say …

SIENNA ARDEN: I think women bring the good vibes that we so very much need in today’s society. Sometimes we need a little more positivity in the world.
WANDA BEKWA: Women provide a certain voice and they share different opinions that we need in schools, in our friend groups, at home and in the community as a whole.
JACKSON MOGOTLANE: Through their actions and voice, women bring a sense of inclusion and equality to society. We see and experience this not only in our day-to-day lives but also on social media.
BRANDON MCDONALD: We can constantly learn new things because young women in the community, and in my life, provide knowledge on things that we as men wouldn’t normally know about.
AMANDA JALI: Women help families and communities grow because many people, including children, greatly depend on them. Women are the rocks of society and should be more appreciated.
ANAIYA SHUKLA: I think women are important and helpful because they are voicing their opinions, and most importantly, they are helping other people realise that they can do that as well.
MEDHA NIRGHEN: Young women specifically in today’s society speak out more and voice their opinions which I think helps the older generation learn more about not only what is current but also realise that people can be who and what they want to be.
